Local Currency

The currency is Japanese Yen.
You can buy yen at foreign exchange banks and currency exchange counters at the international airports. For exchange, banks are available from 10am to 3 pm, post offices are also available from 9 am to 6pm.
International credit cards such as VISA, MasterCard are acceptable at major shopping places and restaurants; however, using credit cards is not always convenient outside major cities. Thus, it is recommended to always carry cash with you just in case.
You can use foreign issued credit and cash cards for withdrawal in yen at POST OFFICE ATMs and SEVEN BANK ATMs.



Weather

The annual average temperature in Maebashi is 13-14Ž. In summer, it is usually very hot and humid throughout the day, and temperature can get 40.0Ž at the highest. However, in winter, it can get very cold due to strong cold wind blowing from the north.



VAT

The consumption tax rate is 5 % for all purchases. There is no tipping requirement nor is tipping expected in Japan. You don't need to worry about that at all.



Electricity

The electricity in Japan is 100 volts. The plug is A type. Please make sure that your electric appliances are compatible with Japan 100V.



Time differences

All of Japan is in the same time zone and Japan Standard Time is 9 hours ahead of G.M.T.
No daylight saving time.



Water

Tap water is safe to drink anywhere in Japan.
However people tend to drink bottled water.
Bottled water is pretty much available at grocery stores and convenience stores.
